Evan Wickham How are worship songs written? Why do so few songs stand the test of time? Why rewrite? Why cowrite? How do we balance creativity and biblical accuracy? From his songwriting experience, Evan Wickham will share about the heart and skill of crafting worship songs. He will also share some stories behind some of his own songs. Basic Acoustic Guitar Scott Cunningham * We will focus on the fundamentals that will help you learn basic chords and chord families, strumming patterns, “Easy Chord Anchoring Ideas,” and easy open chords. We will go over a few songs together and apply what we’ve learned. (Bring your guitar.) Drum & Bass Combo Spencer Kim & Darren Plies In this class we will take a look at the individuals roles of the drummer and bassist, and how they work together to form a solid foundation for the rest of the band to build upon. Electric Guitar - Tips, Tricks, & Tones Landon Bailey Come join the noise as we talk about creative ideas behind the electric guitar. We will discuss common sounds found in a pedalboard, talk about how to use them in a worship context, and explore some out of the box tricks to help get you inspired! Keys Bryan Malolot * In this workshop we’ll discuss the primary and secondary roles of a keyboard player when playing in a team or leading by yourself behind the keyboard. We will also cover alternatives to basic chords, patches to help fill the worship setting, and simple tricks to add a fresh sound to your musical repertoire. Vocals Jimmy Robeson Do you ever wish you had better control of your voice? Want to learn creative ways to color your voice and give it dimension? In this workshop, we will be discussing basic vocal technique for a worship setting, control, how to find the right key for your voice, creative ways to bring shape your tone, ideas for warming up and much more. Come learn some ways to expand your vocal skill and potential. Reharmonizing Songs Brenden McPeek * In this class Brenden will show us how to take familiar worship songs and spice them up a bit using different chords, beats, and approaches. Have you ever thought, “I love this song and the words are biblically sound, but it’s just not my style”? If so this class is for you. Live Sound Reinforcement Chaz Celaya * Learn about the key elements necessary for church audio. We will go over common mistakes as well as simple matters that can enhance your overall sound quality. Prepare questions and concerns that you may have regarding your home church audio, as all these questions will be addressed during this workshop. Eph. 4:12-13 |
WORKSHOP B - 3:30pmFusion Lab
Evan Wickham & Band Evan and the band will be talking about and demonstrating some of the ways they arrange and rehearse songs and the roles each instrument plays in the band. Intermediate Acoustic Guitar Chaz Celaya This workshop is for those who want some tips on how to “break out of the box” of the traditional chords played on the first 3 frets. We will discuss chord families, open chords, barre chords, inversions and the cut-capo among other topics. Bring your guitar and be ready to play along. Fundamentals of Recording Dan Salas * In this workshop we’ll take a look at some practical ways to develop a portable recording set-up that can be used out on the mission field, to record your whole worship team at church, or just yourself at home. We’ll cover some of the basics of capturing good audio, miking techniques, and getting great equipment to fit within your budget. Electric Guitar: Triads & Tones Drew Enterline * In this workshop, we will discuss the role of an electric guitarist in a worship setting, as well as how to approach a song. We will also explore some of the most common techniques used in worship music, as well as common tones found by using various pedals. so bring your guitar! Electric Guitar Brenden McPeek In this class Brenden will be offering some fresh voicings on familiar chords. Perfect for the player who is “stuck in a box” or only plays chords from the 3rd fret down. Approaching chord families from the natural minor scale and seeing how all that relates to the major key songs we all play. If you want to utilize the whole fretboard as well as learn when and how to incorporate some extended voicing, this class is for you. The Role of The Worship Leader Jimmy Robeson Has God placed a desire in your heart to lead God’s people in worship? In this class we will be discussing our role as worship leaders both through song and in our lives. How do we teach people who God is and what He has done through song? What are some practical ways of shepherding God’s people during transition times? Beginner Piano Anastacia Arriaga This workshop will focus on the fundamental music theory that will give each attendee the ability to play any song using Guitar Lead Charts. Be prepared to receive a brief overview of the “Circle of Fifths” as a tool for memorizing how chords are built, their inversions, and how to locate them on the piano. Different rhythms will be discussed as well as the different playing styles for keyboards versus acoustic piano and support versus leading. |
